Traditional Egyptian Street Food Tasting Walking Tour in Cairo

1 Day

Tour overview

The Cairo Egyptian Street Food Walking Tour is a private 4-hour evening walking tour through Downtown or Islamic Cairo with a local food guide. Includes 6-8 street food tastings covering iconic Egyptian dishes (koshari, ta’amiya, fiteer, molokhia, ful medames, hawawshi, kunafa), a local drink stop, and cultural context. From $57 per person.

Egyptian street food is one of the world’s most under-appreciated cuisines — dense, spice-heavy, plant-based staples (koshari, ful medames, ta’amiya) alongside grilled meats, savory pastries, and outrageous desserts. This private walking tour takes you through Downtown Cairo or Al Muizz Street (Islamic Cairo) — Marvel’s guide chooses based on your interests — stopping at 6-8 street food vendors ranging from 100-year-old koshari houses to hole-in-the-wall ful stalls. Small tastings at each stop; you finish full and educated.

Public figures have come for this same koshari at Abou Tarek in Downtown Cairo. Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger filled a bowl at the counter. Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, prepared the plate himself. The Swedish ambassador stood at the koshari cart where the shop began, and the Cuban ambassador ate koshari in the restaurant. The walk stays with the food and the neighborhood.

Food YouTubers

Food YouTubers have filmed this same meal. IShowSpeed ate koshari at Abou Tarek in January 2026 during his Cairo livestream. Trevor James, The Food Ranger, filmed a Cairo food guide that includes koshari at Abou Tarek. Mark Wiens filmed a Cairo street-food walk in 2025 that stops at Abou Tarek. The walk is the food in front of you. It is not a filmed meeting with them.
